Jadon Sancho deal is ‘very expensive’, he could accept ‘pay cut’ to complete move

Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United appears to be coming to an end ahead of his contract at Old Trafford expiring next summer.

Sancho signed for Aston Villa on a season-long loan after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim.

Man United have an option to extend Sancho’s deal at Old Trafford by a further year, but they are not expected to do so.

Football Insider revealed on 6 November Borussia Dortmund are keen to re-sign Sancho, who joined Man United from the Bundesliga side for £73million in the summer of 2021.

However, the 25-year-old’s wages are a potential stumbling block, with his current deal believed to be worth around £300,000 a week.

Man United unlikely to make ‘surprising’ Jadon Sancho decision

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Sancho will likely have to accept a pay cut to join a new club next summer.

The winger, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, has registered 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances at Old Trafford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Sancho taking a pay cut next summer, Borson said: “I mean, it’s hard to see how that won’t be the case. Although, it will be a free transfer, so that’s going to tip it back in his favour.

“If United don’t exercise their one-year extension option, which I’d be surprised if they did, obviously if he moves to Saudi Arabia, then he’s not going to take a pay cut.

“Otherwise, I think he probably will have to take some pay cut. But as I say, the free transfer is going to play into that.”

Sancho has failed to register a goal or an assist in his opening 12 games for Villa this season.

Sancho could agree big-money deal after Man United exit

Borson insisted it will be a “very expensive” deal for Dortmund or any other interested parties to sign Sancho permanently next summer.

“I think Dortmund probably will feel that they can get something out of him,” said Borson.

“The only issue really is it’s been quite a while since he was at a good level consistently. He was okay at Chelsea, but it’s about how much you want to commit to a player that’s been quite patchy for five years, maybe more.

“It’s still a very expensive deal, even with no transfer fee. I don’t think anyone needs to get the violins out for the player, he’s going to do very well either way, whether it’s £200k or £300k a week. It’s not a bad position to be in.”

Sancho has registered 53 goals and 67 assists in 158 appearances for Dortmund over two spells.
