BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey believes that Steven Gerrard’s ‘obsession’ with football will lead him to success at Rangers.
Humphrey, who has worked with Gerrard on BT Sport for the past few years, doesn’t have any doubts that Gerrard will succeed in his first managerial job, as BBC Sport reports that he is set to be confirmed as the new Gers boss on Friday afternoon.
“I know people have their doubts over whether it’s the right move, but I don’t. Steven Gerrard will be the next Rangers manager and I wish him all the luck in the world. His ‘obsession’ will take him far” Humphrey said on his personal Twitter account.

The appointment of Gerrard to such a big job in his first managerial role is undeniable a gamble from the Ibrox side, but Gers director of football Mark Allen seems to be adamant that the former Liverpool and England captain is the right man for the job.
Football Insider verdict
Gers fans will be encouraged by what Humphrey has to say on this matter, as he has worked with Gerrard for years and knows what kind of man he is, and how driven he will be to succeed at Ibrox. It is certainly a gamble from the Gers board, but they seem to see something in Gerrard that makes him the ideal candidate to take over from Graeme Murty as the new man in the home dugout at Ibrox. Of course, the appointment could go very badly wrong, as Gerrard could well be overwhelmed in his first job, so it will be important that his backroom staff is full of experienced individuals who are well aware of what is required to succeed in Scottish football. This isn’t Liverpool-Everton now, Gerrard is with a club who are in a real footballing rivalry, who will always be judged by how well their rivals in the East End of Glasgow are doing, and the sooner he gets to grips with that the better.
