Jamaal Lascelles delivers damning verdict on Newcastle performance v Burnley
By Russell Edge
Newcastle United defender and club captain Jamaal Lascelles has admitted that the players’ performance in Monday’s defeat to Burnley was not up to standard.
The Magpies travelled to Turf Moor one point and two places ahead of the Clarets and it was as closely fought a match as the league table would suggest, with Jeff Hendrick’s second half strike the only thing to separate the two sides in Burnley’s 1-0.
The result means Sean Dyche’s side have leapfrogged Rafael Benitez and his men into seventh place, with Newcastle now two points back in ninth, five points clear of the relegation zone.
Reflecting after the game, Lascelles, who has appeared in every one of the club’s 10 matches this season, starting in nine of them, gave a damning verdict on his personal Twitter account, stating that the performance was not good enough and that they will be looking to turn things around next weekend.
Overall not good enough from us tonight! We now focus on Saturday and turn things back around #NUFC

The Magpies are set to play host to Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday, with Eddie Howe’s side currently languishing one place off the bottom of the table in 19th.

Newcastle may well be relieved that they are back in front of their home fans after a disappointing away record this season, which has seen them pick up just one win on the road so far, a 1-0 win over Swansea.
In other Newcastle United news, fans were left fuming over the display of this man against Burnley.
