James Maddison aims new dig at Roy Keane, Jude Bellingham responds

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has seemingly aimed a sly dig at Roy Keane after their 1-0 Premier League win over Man United on Sunday (February 16).

The 28-year-old scored the only goal as Ange Postecoglu’s side edged past fellow strugglers Man United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ win sees them leapfrog United, moving up to 12th with nine wins, three draws, 13 defeats, and 30 points from their 25 games, while Ruben Amorim’s side drop to 15th.

Former United captain Keane, 53, was openly critical of Maddison on the latest edition of The Overlap, saying: “Maddison isn’t bad when he’s not at the darts, but let me tell you, if you think he’s going to come back and get Spurs into the top six, you’re in cuckoo land.”

Tottenham welcomed back four players from injury in their win over United, with Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Odobert all making their returns.

The attacking midfielder has been key for Spurs this season, starting 22 of his 32 games across all competitions, scoring ten goals, and providing six assists in his 1931 minutes of action.

Maddison seemingly responded to Keane in his post-match interview on Sky Sports, saying: “Just a little bit of outside noise wasn’t there this week. People have their opinions. I wanted to do my talking on the pitch. There will be a certain few enjoying me being the match winner.”

The attacking midfielder appeared to aim another thinly veiled jab at Keane on Instagram, sharing an image from the game with a ‘shush’ emoji, copying part of his celebration.

Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham was among those who responded to Maddison on the social media platform.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (10 February) that Tottenham boss Postecoglou still has the backing of the board despite their poor run of form.

Tottenham have now recorded two consecutive Premier League games for the first time since September as they prepare to take on Ipswich Town on Saturday (February 22).
