James Maddison reacts as Pape Sarr sends ‘grateful’ message after Tottenham exit
Pape Matar Sarr has sent a message on social media after Ange Postecoglou’s fate was decided at Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham‘s turbulent 2024–25 season has polarised figures in the game and sparked a direct split in the discourse surrounding Spurs, as Postecoglou’s side recorded a 17th-placed finish with silverware to boot.
Spurs’ 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final means they’ll play Champions League football next term despite finishing one place above the drop zone, but Postecoglou won’t be in charge.
Football Insider revealed on 1 June that Daniel Levy would axe Postecoglou despite Tottenham’s Europa League success, and Spurs confirmed their decision to relieve the Australian of his duties on Friday (6 June).
The reaction from Tottenham fans to Postecoglou’s sacking has been vitriolic, and after Levy disposed of the manager who won the Lilywhites’ first trophy in 17 years, it remains to be seen where Spurs turn next.

Sarr sends Postecoglou message at Tottenham – ‘better man’
Spurs fans have directed their anger towards Levy for his handling of Postecoglou’s position after their Europa League victory, while Tottenham’s players have sent tributes aplenty after the 59-year-old’s dismissal.
Pedro Porro, Richarlison, Micky van de Ven, Son Heung-min and James Maddison have all sent their best wishes to Postecoglou, and Sarr has given the Australian his thoughts after a strong season personally.
Sarr made 54 appearances in all competitions across the campaign and added six goals after his three strikes in 35 last term, and posted on his Instagram page (7 June) with a message for Postecoglou.
In a post liked by both Maddison and Dominic Solanke, Sarr said: “To the boss, thank you for being a part of my journey.
“You have made me a better player, a better man and most of all you made history with every single one of us. For that, I will always be grateful. Wish you all the best gaffer”.
Tottenham to accelerate search for Postecoglou successor
Football Insider Verdict
The Tottenham squad’s support for Postecoglou despite last season’s difficulties has sparked fears that Levy may face a “mass exodus” after the decision to sack him, with Spurs managerless for the time being.
Football Insider revealed on 7 June that Tottenham are closing in on a deal to pluck Thomas Frank from Brentford after he emerged as their top target to succeed Postecoglou, with further talks on the cards.
Brentford have already taken steps to replace Frank themselves as revealed by Football Insider on Saturday, and that proactive plan comes in stark contrast to the way Levy has handled Postecoglou’s situation.
