James Maddison reacts to Dominic Solanke’s message after Tottenham fans destroy him

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has responded to criticism from fans on social media following his latest performance against PSG.

The English forward came on as a substitute in Tottenham’s loss to PSG in the Super Cup on 13 August, marking his return from injury.

Despite Spurs taking the lead through Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, Thomas Frank’s side conceded two late goals, with Lee Kang-In scoring in the 85th minute and Goncalo Ramos netting a stoppage-time equaliser, and the French side won on penalties.

While Richarlison started the match, Solanke’s cameo off the bench was widely criticised by Tottenham supporters. The striker managed just five touches of the ball and failed to complete a pass during his time on the pitch.

Following the match, the Englishman shared a message with supporters, addressing the criticism and showing his intent to bounce back despite a difficult return.

Tottenham stars back Solanke after message to supporters

Solanke shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to fans despite the criticism he faced after Tottenham’s loss to PSG.

He captioned his post: “Fighting for trophies is where we want to be. Yesterday we weren’t victorious, but Saturday we start our journey to again fight for more.

“Happy to finally be back out on the pitch again.”

The striker received plenty of support for his uplifting message, with James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Romero all liking the post.

The striker contributed 24 goal involvements in his debut campaign, despite Tottenham struggling in the league and finishing in a disappointing 17th place.

However, Solanke’s poor performance against PSG left many fans unimpressed and could prompt Thomas Frank to make a decision regarding his striking options.

Still, his influence in the Europa League last season was crucial, with goals in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and he will hope to regain that form in the upcoming season.

While Tottenham now prepare for the Premier League opening weekend, their frontline looks set to be strengthened.

Football Insider reports that Savinho is keen to join Spurs after the club opened talks with Manchester City over the winger.

The Brazilian played a rotational role in his debut season, and it is understood Frank is willing to offer him a more regular starting role in North London as the club continue to be active in the transfer market.
