James Tavernier will quit Rangers soon ‘from what I’m told’ – expert

James Tavernier will quit Rangers this summer and sign for Steven Gerrard at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie revealed that he expects Tavernier, 32, to be one of multiple big names to leave Ibrox in the upcoming window.

This comes after his side were pipped to the SPFL title and Scottish Cup by Celtic, ending the season with just one trophy when there had been hopes of a treble.

McAvennie had previously told Football Insider that Tavernier had already demanded to leave Rangers before the Scottish Cup defeat.

Rangers’ right-back has made 459 appearances for the club since arriving in 2015, leading them to a league title, a Scottish Cup, a League Cup, and the Europa League final.

James Tavernier will leave Rangers this summer

Football Insider has revealed that Philippe Clement ranks Tavernier among the must-keep players at the club.

However, McAvennie insisted his fate is already sealed and he will leave to link up with his former boss in Saudi Arabia.

Tavernier is gone, isn’t he? Tavernier is away. There are a few of the boys away,” he told Football Insider.

Tavernier has been there forever and I think he’s just realised, I think he’s going to go to Gerrard’s team, that’s where he’s going, I believe, and from what I’m told.

Go and make money.

He’s got a couple of medals and he’s in the hall of fame at Rangers so they seem to be happy with that.

He’s not for me. They’ve got to get somebody in who isn’t scared to go and challenge.
