Jamie Carragher explodes at ’embarrassing’ Chelsea player live on air
Jamie Carragher exploded at Marc Cucurella live on Sky Sports during the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Tottenham on 8 December.
Enzo Maresca’s side ran out the eventual winners, having gone two goals down after 11 minutes when both Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski found the net.
Those goals were met by a strike from Jadon Sancho before half-time, after which Chelsea became dominant as Enzo Fernandez found the net before a brace from Cole Palmer, and Son Heung-min grabbed one back late on.
However, it was Cucurella’s display which caught the eye of the neutrals and Carragher after he was at fault for both goals as Spurs took an early lead, slipping both times.
As the 26-year-old trotted over to the sidelines to change his boots in an attempt to find more grip, the former Liverpool defender labelled him “embarrassing”.
Commentating live on Sky Sports Main Event [8 December, 16:42], Carragher ranted: “Cucurella’s coming to the bench, don’t blame anyone else, it’s your own fault, son.
“Is he blaming the kitman? Absolute schoolboy stuff. It’s embarrassing.
“Look at him, shrugging his shoulders, ‘It’s not my fault, it’s your fault with the boots you gave me,’ did he not do a warm up?”
Jamie Carragher tears into Marc Cucurella after Chelsea mistakes v Tottenham
Following the game, Cucurella addressed his errors in an Instagram post which showed his boots in a bin in the Stamford Bridge changing rooms.
Chelsea supporters, meanwhile, have joked that his change of footwear could be the difference-maker in a potential title-winning season as they moved up to second place in the league.
However, Carragher could not see the funny side of the incident during the game and was left raging at what was a shocking first ten minutes for the Blues full-back.
The Spaniard has established himself as a key player in Maresca’s side this season, having made 14 of a possible 15 appearances so far, and will want to put those mistakes behind him.
Chelsea have found themselves in a slightly unexpected title race as they sit four points behind league-leaders Liverpool, albeit with one more game played, and two points above Arsenal.

It was Palmer who grabbed the headlines against Tottenham, with a clip of his second goal going viral on social media, but Cucurella will be more thankful than anybody for the Chelsea turnaround.
