Jamie Carragher has stated that he is “worried” Everton might catch Liverpool and fears his former club may not finish in the top four.
Sky Sports pundit Carragher made the bold prediction after the Reds were beaten 3-1 at Leicester City on Monday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side produced a lacklustre display away from home as they have now recorded only one win in the Premier League since the turn of the year.
The Toffees are in seventh place and five points behind their neighbours after they beat relegation strugglers Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
These were Carragher’s comments on Sky Sports straight after Liverpool’s defeat as he was asked if he is worried about his former club finishing outside the top four.
“I’m more worried about Everton catching us at the moment,” Carragher told the Monday night football programme. “Of course it is a fear (that Liverpool can finish outside the top four).”
Just like Carragher, the club’s supporters will be worried as their recent form suggests they could miss out on the top four and potentially finish below Everton.
At this moment in time, Klopp’s side are in fifth place on 49 points from their 26 games, one point ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United who have a game in hand on their rivals and five points ahead of Ronald Koeman’s side.
The Merseyside club’s next match will be a home tie against fellow top four chasers Arsenal at Anfield on March 4.
