
Jamie Carragher responds to Steven Gerrard post amid Rangers return claims
Jamie Carragher has responded to his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard on social media amid Rangers return claims.
Gerrard has resigned as manager of Saudi Pro League side, Al-Ettifaq, after 18 months in charge [BBC Sport].
Following his sacking as Aston Villa manager in 2022, Gerrard would join the Saudi Arabian club in 2023.
Despite his long-time assistant, Michael Beale, joining Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq in November 2024 [BBC Sport], the pair were unable to find a solution to the teams poor form.
Gerrard leaves Al-Ettifaq 12th in the SPL, having also been kicked out of the King’s Cup by second-tier side Al-Jabalain.
Rangers may look to move on from Philippe Clement and re-hire Steven Gerrard
The news of Gerrard’s exit has now sparked rumours that the former Liverpool captain may return to Rangers, where he enjoyed the most success he has had in his short managerial career.
During his three years at the club, the ‘Gers managed to win the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership title.
Fans of the club seem particularly excited about the idea of Gerrard returning, as they flooded the comments of his Instagram post asking for him to come back to the club.
Gerrard’s message on his Instagram post reads: “After careful consideration, the club and I have mutually agreed to part ways. This was not an easy decision, but sometimes in football, things don’t work out as planned. The Saudi Pro League is a tough and competitive league, and I have nothing but respect for the players and staff who give their all every day.
“I want to sincerely thank everyone at the club for their support and hard work. Football in Saudi Arabia is moving in the right direction, and I’ll always appreciate my time here. Wishing the team and the fans nothing but success moving forward.”

Liverpool legend, Carragher, then responded with two clapping hand emoji’s, showing his support for Gerrard’s decision.
Current Rangers boss, Philippe Clement has been under pressure recently, and following a number of disappointing draws, an update was given by Sky Sports on his future at the club.
Some fans have also wanted to see the club sell Cyriel Dessers to fund the Belgian’s firing.
