Jamie Miley: Newcastle move gets green light as four clubs swoop – sources

Newcastle United midfielder Jamie Miley is a loan target for Northampton, Crawley, Gillingham and Newport, sources have told Football Insider.

Newcastle are willing to loan Miley out for the coming campaign to help his development as he does not feature in Eddie Howe’s immediate plans.

Miley, 20, impressed in pre-season for Newcastle and his availability has put a number of EFL clubs on alert, and they are now plotting formal offers.

The midfielder has yet to make a competitive senior appearance in his career, but clubs in League One and League Two are willing to take a gamble on his talent.

Newcastle United to allow Jamie Miley loan amid EFL interest

Miley, the brother of Newcastle teenager Lewis who has been heavily involved in the first team, was handed an opportunity to impress Howe in pre-season.

He was handed his first senior start in the 2-0 win against Hull City on 27 July before making his first appearance at St James’ Park in a 4-0 win against Girona on 9 August.

However, he is not viewed as part of Howe’s first-team squad for the coming season and Newcastle are keen to see him leave on loan.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club in 2022 and has featured regularly for the Under-21 side since he turned 17.

A loan move to the EFL is seen as the next positive step for his development, with clubs now lining up to take him on loan.

Newcastle

League One clubs Crawley and Northampton are looking to bolster their midfield with the loan addition to help push further up the table, with the former looking to avoid relegation.

Meanwhile, both Gillingham and Newport are aiming to build on mid-table finishes in League Two last time out, with Miley viewed as a key target to strengthen their squads.
