Jamie Vardy shares three-word fitness update ‘after Rangers talks’

Jamie Vardy has shared images of his new training regime as the former Leicester City man continues to be linked with a move to Rangers.

The 38-year-old is without a club after running down his contract at the King Power Stadium, bringing an end to his incredible career with the Foxes, boasting 200 goals in 500 total appearances.

It was an extremely emotional final game for the striker as he helped his side seal a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on the final day of the Premier League season, wheeling away to the corner flag.

Despite now being in the twilight of his career for a number of years, he is eager to continue playing, and there have been links with Saudi Arabia and MLS over the last few weeks.

However, Football Insider understands that Rangers have opened preliminary talks to sign Vardy, with Russell Martin in charge at Ibrox, and many supporters are positive about the potential deal.

Taking to Instagram stories (12 July), Vardy wrote: “Keep up then, @db1physio,” keeping the cheeky side to his personality on social media as the striker searches for a new club.

The 38-year-old ended his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium this summer, with multiple clubs still interested in the player’s services and ability despite his age.

Some fans may be concerned by the forward potentially picking up injuries, but given his fitness record over the last decade, it might be a chance worth taking.

Football Insider verdict

With a new manager in the dugout and new owners in the boardroom, supporters will be expecting huge changes ahead of the new season, and rightly so, but it is not that simple.

There is a lot of deadweight in the squad that requires shifting, and the former Southampton figure is working out which players are likely to thrive under his leadership and who needs moving on.

James Tavernier has long been linked with a Rangers exit, but at 33 years of age, the club legend has been moved into the centre of defence and could play a key role in the 2025/26 campaign.

Signing Vardy would only increase the average age of the squad, but given his record with the Foxes over the years, there is absolutely no denying his ability in front of goal.

While Cyriel Dessers’ Rangers exit has hit a hurdle, Hamza Igamane looks set to depart Ibrox this summer, and that would leave the Gers with at least one forward needed for the new season.

The attack is possibly the Light Blues’ weakest area of the pitch right now, with several of the players unable to be relied upon due to their injury record, so a move for Vardy has left many excited.
