Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice react to Wan-Bissaka’s West Ham announcement

Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice were among the players to react to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s latest announcement after a standout first season at the club.

Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed a solid campaign since joining from Manchester United last summer, impressing with consistent performances despite a disappointing domestic season overall.

The right-back has firmly established himself as first choice in the position, with Vladimir Coufal set to leave West Ham after losing his place to the 27-year-old.

His form has even sparked frustration among some Man United fans, who questioned the club’s decision to let Wan-Bissaka go—particularly in light of Diogo Dalot’s inconsistent displays this season.

Following a strong debut year, his efforts have now been recognised by the club, capping off what has been a quietly impressive individual campaign.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka named West Ham player of the year after standout season

West Ham confirmed Wan-Bissaka as their 2024/25 ‘Hammer of the Year’ in a club announcement on social media, captioned: “Your 2024/25 Hammer of the Year!” and tagging the right-back.

The post was met with plenty of praise, with club captain Bowen and former West Ham midfielder Rice among those who reacted by liking it.

Other current teammates including Edson Alvarez, Dinos Mavropanos and Emerson Palmieri also showed their support by engaging with the post.

Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign at the London Stadium, making 37 appearances across all competitions. He has contributed two goals and four assists in over 3,200 minutes of action and been one of the side’s most reliable performers in a year marked by instability.

While the club had previously planned to strengthen in the right-back position, his consistent form has prompted a rethink. Football Insider revealed West Ham will now prioritise the signing of a left-back instead, with concerns shifting to the opposite flank thanks to Wan-Bissaka’s presence.

Despite Wan-Bissaka’s individual success, the club’s overall form has taken a hit. West Ham have won just once in their last 10 Premier League matches, suffering five defeats during that run. Frustration among supporters has grown, with West Ham fans calling for Potter to be sacked.

According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, Potter is under increasing pressure to keep his job following their poor form.

While a decision from the board may not be imminent, the mood around the club is tense, and speculation around his future continues to build. With a crucial summer window ahead, time may be running out for him to prove he is the man to lead West Ham forward.
