Jean-Clair Todibo to be handed extended ban after wild scenes in Chelsea vs West Ham

West Ham are likely to be without Jean-Clair Todibo for several games after a moment of madness against Chelsea on Saturday.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that it would not be a surprise to see the FA take firm action against the centre-half.

After Leeds United were thrashed by Arsenal, the Hammers had the perfect chance to edge closer to safety, only for Nuno Espirito Santo to throw away all three points at Stamford Bridge on 31 January.

The West Ham boss is now at risk of being sacked, losing his 10th game since taking over in East London, with his team still five points away from climbing out of the relegation zone.

Emotions were clearly high as time ticked away, and after Adama Traore and Joao Pedro clashed near the corner flag, Todibo saw red, literally and metaphorically, as he grabbed Pedro around the throat.

FA tipped to take firm action over Jean-Clair Todibo

Often, a straight red card results in a simple three-match ban, but after his actions at Stamford Bridge, Hackett has predicted a much lengthier suspension for West Ham‘s No.25.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Todibo’s actions, the former referee said: “There is no doubt that this was a clear act of violence by a player who had lost self-control.

“I expect that when the authorities review this incident, Todibo will be at risk of receiving a longer suspension than the usual three games.

“Both clubs will be charged for failing to control their players and can expect a fine in excess of £200,000 each.”

Wild scenes break out at Stamford Bridge

It became clear just how stressful a situation the Hammers are in right now, with emotions bubbling over right before the half-time whistle.

Sadly, for a manager already under pressure, he will now be without his best centre-back for the foreseeable future, which could also mean depending on Max Kilman.

Supporters have already made their feelings very clear over the former Wolves captain, and Nuno may not even rate him either, with the player falling down his pecking order in recent weeks.

The situation was entirely avoidable, but with the Irons battling to remain in the Premier League this season, Todibo just saw red and couldn’t control his feelings at Stamford Bridge.
