Jeremy Doku sends Alexander-Arnold dig after Man City lose to Liverpool

Jeremy Doku looks to have made fun of Trent Alexander Arnold in a social media message to Man City fans despite the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were both on the scoresheet at Etihad Stadium on 23 February, though it was the latter also struggling to deal with the City player throughout the game.

Doku remained rampant on the left flank for the entire 90 minutes, seeing Alexander-Arnold dribbled past a total of 12 times, and the City winger was normally the culprit as he completed 15 dribbles [FotMob].

Sadly for Pep Guardiola, in what could be his final season at Man City, his side were unable to find the final pass or beat Alisson in between the sticks to at least halve the deficit.

Taking to Instagram [24 February], the Belgian posted images of himself and the aforementioned Liverpool players falling to the floor as he sped past them.

In the caption, he wrote: “Not the result we were looking for. We keep fighting together for better,” with praying hand emojis.

Supporters are only becoming more and more frustrated this season, having already been knocked out of the Champions League, and now fighting to secure a top-four spot in the Premier League.

Doku’s post has offered a moment of light relief, however.

Pep Guardiola still has trophies to fight for this season

Football Insider verdict

While supporters accepted long ago that there is no catching Arne Slot’s team at the top of the Premier League table, there is still success for City to fight for.

Missing out on Champions League football next season would be an incredible setback, having qualified every year since 2011, but it is still very possible.

Man City could fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Aston Villa are all among the teams fighting for a top-four finish this season, and Man City’s current form is fooling nobody.

However, with an upcoming clash against Championship side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fifth round, there is still a chance to end the season on a high note with an important piece of silverware.
