Jeremy Doku sends hopeful injury update after new Man City blow, Antoine Semenyo responds

Pep Guardiola has been left frustrated by the treatment of Jeremy Doku as the Man City star suffered a setback on the pitch.

Man City are already without Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and Savinho, to name just a few, and the lightning-quick winger might be another absentee over the coming weeks.

Already on the end of a rough challenge from Diogo Dalot, WolvesYerson Mosquera should have been sent off for a foul on the Belgian international, which forced him to be rested against Bodo/Glimt.

He made a return as Man City beat Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday, 28 January, but just 37 minutes into the game, Guardiola already needed to replace him.

That was not before Doku grabbed two assists in the 2-0 win, taking his tally to 13 goal contributions in 33 appearances this season. Still, it was another annoying moment for those at the Etihad Stadium.

Jeremy Doku remains positive after Man City setback

Taking to Instagram (29 January), Doku wrote: “Grateful for the win, praying for a good and speedy recovery. Always be joyful. Never stop praying.

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Jesus Christ – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18,” to which Antoine Semenyo responded, “Praying for you, my brother”.

Rayan Cherki, Matheus Nunes, Tijjani Reijnders, and Omar Marmoush all liked the player’s post, as well, with more reactions from several Premier League stars, such as Ryan Gravenberch and Youri Tielemans.

It is not the 23-year-old’s first injury this season, which is why his manager is getting so frustrated with some challenges on him. But like Jack Grealish at Everton, he is massively targeted on the pitch.

Man City winger adds to his ever-growing injury list

Many supporters might not have realised how many issues Doku has suffered during his time at the Etihad, but this is yet another setback for the Citizens.

He already missed five matches with a muscle injury during December, with his last problem occurring at the beginning of 2025, when he missed seven matches for Guardiola’s side.

That was not his only issue during the 2024-25 campaign, missing six games for club and country due to a hamstring injury, while also being sidelined for eight games in the season before that.

Unsurprisingly, Guardiola is stressed over the growing number of injuries at the Etihad, and the manager will be hopeful that he can welcome back multiple names in the coming weeks.
