Jeremy Doku sends message to Djed Spence after Tottenham beat Ipswich

Djed Spence received a message via social media from Man City’s Jeremy Doku after Tottenham beat Ipswich Town 4-1 on Saturday.

The flying full-back scored his first Premier League goal in Spurs colours since arriving from Middlesbrough in 2022 on 22 February, having been sent out on loan several times in that period.

His only other goal for the Lilywhites came in the 2-1 win over Coventry City in the EFL Cup in September, and another impactful display seemed to take further pressure off Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

With Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison all returning from injury, Spurs now boast three consecutive league victories for the first time since December of last season.

Taking to Instagram following the clash at Portman Road [23 February], Spence wrote: “I’m coming for everything!” with a lion emoji.

West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville and Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana both liked the post, but Doku went one further, replying with two loved-up emojis.

The right-back, who has been playing on the opposite flank this season, has experienced an unexpected resurgence at Hotspur Way, quickly becoming a favourite in Postecoglou’s Tottenham team.

Football Insider verdict

There is no doubt amongst supporters that Daniel Levy was unbelievably close to parting ways with Postecoglou, but Spurs have finally found some form in the league.

Back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Aston Villa saw the team go crashing out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup, which was incredibly damaging after the shock 2-1 loss to Leicester City last month.

Ange Postecoglou was under immense pressure at Tottenham following this run of results.

With just 12 league matches remaining, and the chance still there to lift the Europa League title, it is difficult to see Spurs parting ways with the manager before the end of the season.

The Lilywhites will be expected to bypass AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16, setting up a meeting with former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott, who has thrived in the Netherlands since leaving England.

Postecoglou could still win silverware during his second season in North London, but with Spurs 12th in the Premier League, it will all come down to the Europa League now.
