Jhon Duran: Chelsea reach ‘agreement in principle’ over deal – sources
Chelsea are in advanced talks with Aston Villa to sign forward Jhon Duran for £40million and a deal could be done as early as next week, sources have told Football Insider.
The Colombia international has reached an “agreement in principle” over personal terms ahead following talks in recent days.
The deal is increasingly likely to be done next week after Football Insider first revealed on 13th June the 20-year-old had opened talks with Chelsea.
Villa need to sell a player by the end of June to avoid breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and the Duran deal is more advanced than that of his teammate Douglas Luiz.
The forward is under contract at Villa Park until 2028.
John Duran likely to leave Aston Villa to ease PSR concerns
Duran’s time with Villa has been relatively mixed since making his £18million move from Chicago Fire in January 2023.
While the Colombian has made 49 appearances during that time, scoring eight goals, he’s believed to have grown frustrated with his lack of starts.
But the forward has been competing with star player Ollie Watkins, who scored 27 goals and laid on 13 assists last season.
Duran has now reached an agreement in principle to leave Villa Park as Chelsea are in advanced talks over a £40million deal to land his signature.
Villa are believed to be close to the PSR limit after announcing losses of £119million in their latest 2022-23 accounts.

Football Insider revealed on 7 June the West Midlands giants must raise £60million in player sales after their PSR proposal was rejected by their fellow Premier League clubs.
Brazilian midfielder Luiz’s future at Villa Park is also in doubt after Football Insider revealed on 12 June that he has reached an agreement in principle over a move to Italian giants Juventus.
