Former Hibernian boss Jim Duffy believes that Brendan Rodgers has no need to sign a creative player in the January transfer window – as he Ryan Christie for the role.
Christie has spent the entirety of the season on-loan at Aberdeen, as part of the deal which took Jonny Hayes to the Hoops.
The 22-year-old has had a fine season with the Dons, scoring seven goals including two against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
Duffy is now urging Rodgers to to give the outcasted attacker more of a first-chance in the Scottish champions’ team next season.
“Ryan has the potential, he is basically free and he isn’t on huge wages, plus he is already your player,” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“Will he settle straight into the club? Or does he need time to bed in with the rest of the squad? You don’t have these issues with Ryan because he obviously knows Scottish football inside out already.
“He knows the manager and the style that Brendan wants to play.”
Christie joined the Bhoys in 2015, but has spent much of his time at the club on-loan to either Inverness or Aberdeen, and has found his game time at Celtic Park limited.
Next season could be make-or-break for the player and his chances of making it at Celtic Park.
The Hoops are next in action on Tuesday night when they take on Partick Thistle at Firhill in their first league match since the winter break.
Rodgers will be looking for his side to maintain their eight point lead over Aberdeen at the top of the table as the second-half of the season gets underway.
