Joe Rodon shocks Sky Sports pundit in ‘major’ incident for Leeds United vs Derby
Joe Rodon left Andy Hinchcliffe “amazed” after missing a golden chance for Leeds United against Derby County.
After an opening 25 minutes of few chances, it was the centre-back who had the first big chance to open the scoring.
As a corner came in from the right, the former Tottenham man broke free of his marker to get to the ball just outside the six-yard box at the back post.
Making contact with a diving header though, Rodon could only divert his effort off-target, meaning Leeds missed out on a significant chance to open the scoring, with Hinchcliffe very surprised by the end result.
Speaking while co-commentating on the game for Sky Sports (7 December, 12:56), the former Man City and Everton left-back said: “I’m amazed that he’s missed I just wonder does he see it slightly late, does it just drop over the head of Nat Phillips, and slightly puts him off, he can’t really get his bearings.
“He gets away from his man, Kane Wilson, far too easily, maybe doesn’t see it until slightly too late but it’s a major opportunity.”
Joe Rodon makes amends for Leeds United missed opportunity

Missing that chance will have be a hugely frustrating moment for Rodon and Daniel Farke’s side.
After slipping up at Blackburn Rovers last weekend, the Whites would have been determined to get back to winning ways here.
Missing this chance cost Leeds one opportunity to do that early one, which would certainly have eased the nerves around Elland Road as well.

From a personal perspective as well, Rodon would have seen this as a big chance to get his first goal in English football, so he will not have been pleased here.
Fortunately for the centre-back and his team, he was able to rectify that error by placing the very next header he met from a corner into the bottom corner of the Derby goal.
Leeds therefore, did get the platform they needed to put their promotion push back on track courtesy of Joe Rodon, despite his earlier miss, and one goal brought another as forgotten man Max Wober added a second soon after.
In other news, Leeds have been told to sign a Brentford player in the January transfer window.
