Joel Veltman reacts to ‘gutted’ Adam Webster in ‘huge’ Brighton message
Joel Veltman has reacted to a message from Brighton star Adam Webster on social media after the heartbreak of losing to Nottingham Forest on penalties.
Brighton were torn apart by Forest 7-0 when the two sides last met, with the Seagulls entering their FA Cup quarter-final match-up with a sense of trepidation.
However, Nuno Espirito Santo chose to rest a number of key players, instead focusing on the Tricky Trees’ push for Champions League qualification, giving Brighton the confidence to take control of the first half.
Despite being in the ascendancy for much of the match and retaining slightly more of the ball, the Seagulls were unable to capitalise, missing two big chances.
With neither team being able to find the back of the net, the game went to penalties, where Forest eventually edged out their opponents as Ryan Yates fired home the winning spot-kick.
Adam Webster sends message to Brighton fans after defeat
Brighton’s quest for a first major title will continue, as defeat to Forest leaves the Seagulls out of both domestic cups.
Following the loss, Webster posted a number of photos on Instagram from the tie, captioned: “Gutted it didn’t go our way. 9 huge games to go.”
Joel Veltman, who missed the game due to injury, then liked the post, showing support for his teammate.
Both players will be keen to put the result behind them, as Brighton chase European football with just nine games left in the season.
Kaoru Mitoma’s miserable March continues for Brighton
Football Insider Verdict
Having been one of the worst players on the pitch in Brighton’s narrow 2-1 win over Fulham on 8 March, Mitoma once again struggled to have any impact in the game against Forest.
The Japanese winger had previously been linked with a move to Chelsea, but following two strong showing’s against the Blues in February, the 27-year-old has gone off the boil.

Mitoma’s other games in March have seen him be booked against Man City, substituted against Newcastle in the 2-1 extra-time win in the FA Cup, whilst being a non-factor against Bournemouth.
The winger is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most talented attacking players, renowned for his dribbling and chance creation, but Fabian Hurzeler will want to see more from him as Brighton pursue European football.
Having shown flashes of talent this season, Simon Adingra remains an option for the German manager, should he choose to drop Mitoma.
