Joey Barton given ‘stinking’ Rangers put-down after Aston Villa v Celtic claim

Joey Barton’s attack on Scottish football after Celtic lost 4-2 at Aston Villa was met with a “stinking” response from Tam McManus.

The English and Scottish team’s meeting in the Champions League (29 January) was a crucial match for both teams, as they attempted to finish in the top eight of the competitions league stage.

Villa took an early 2-0 lead, thanks to the talented Morgan Rogers, before Adam Idah, who has been linked to Arsenal, managed to bag his own double to level the scores.

The English side would manage to overcome their Scottish counterparts, following an effort from another Arsenal target, Ollie Watkins, before Rogers would finish the game with a third goal in the 91st minute.

The early goals from Rogers caused former Rangers man, Joey Barton, to post on X: “What did I tell ya. England and Scotland, big difference.”

Prompting a response from McManus over the Englishman’s brief stint on the other side of the Old Firm divide, as he said: “Must have imagined Joey stinking the gaff out up here at Rangers.”

Despite the loss of top scorer, Kyogo Furuhashi, to Rennes in the January transfer window, the Hoops proved they have what it takes to compete at the top level.

Furuhashi’s back-up this season, Adam Idah, stepped up and scored twice, prompting suggestions that the Irishman could make a move to Arsenal.

Despite Villa dominating the game in terms of possession, the Bhoys always looked capable of hitting the Premier League side on a counter-attack.

Make no mistake, the team’s Celtic come up against in the knockouts will most likely be the favourites, as they are set to face one off Real Madrid or Bayern Munich [The Independent], but do not write off the Hoops from causing an upset.
