Johnstone: This is why Aston Villa were frustrated in draw v Brentford
By Abigail Withey
Sam Johnstone blamed the international break for halting Aston Villa’s momentum after another disappointing result for Steve Bruce’s side.
Villa are currently sat in 18th place in the Championship table following a difficult start to their campaign which saw two successive defeats, three draws and a win.
Despite their less than impressive results for their opening games to the 2017/18 campaign, the 24-year-old goalkeeper has remained positive but says that their goalless draw against Brentford was made more difficult by the break.
“It was a feeling of frustration on Saturday because we know we can do better,” the stopper said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
“It’s difficult when so many players go away on international duty and come back late on in the week and then there’s a game.

“But the dressing room is positive, and as you saw, we came out positively in the second half and the performance was a lot better.”
Johnstone displayed a stunning performance over the weekend after he pulled off three dazzling saves in order to keep a clean sheet for his side which saw him be awarded man of the match.
The former England Under-21 keeper joined Villa from Manchester United for a second loan spell over the summer, after he previously completed a five month stint at the club during the latter half of the 2016/17 season.
Steve Bruce and his squad will be looking ahead to their mid-week Championship clash against Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening and will be hoping to clinch three points from Garry Monk’s side.
