Jose Mourinho ‘wants to manage Rangers’ amid ‘huge’ new claim
Jose Mourinho would be interested in taking over at Rangers as their ongoing search to find a replacement for Philippe Clement continues.
That is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the boss is making his availability known.
However, Brown explained that Rangers are not currently in a position to attract Mourinho and a potential summer appointment would come as a surprise.
Since Clement’s departure last month and the interim appointment of Barry Ferguson, a number of high-profile managers have been linked with the job.
Rafa Benitez is said to have been discussed, while the likes of Sean Dyche and Steve Cooper have also been linked, and Steven Gerrard remains the “dream appointment”.
Speaking ahead of his Fenerbahce side’s 3-1 defeat to Rangers, Mourinho teased [via BBC]: “Why not in the future?” before gushing over the passion and size of both Gers and Celtic.
Despite ending his comments with “I am not searching for a new job”, speculation about the manager’s potential arrival at Ibrox has been rife.

Jose Mourinho unlikely to take over at Rangers despite his claims
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Rangers could “stun the world” by appointing Mourinho, who would be a good fit at Ibrox.
Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience working with top-level managers including the likes of Alex Ferguson, Ron Atkinson and David Moyes during his career, has insisted that an agreement is unlikely to take place despite his public comments.
“Mourinho wants to manage Rangers,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s a huge club in Scotland, the fans are passionate, it’s a high-profile role which he always likes, all these things he said to the media.
“But I think it’s just Mourinho flying the flag.
“He’s going ‘I’m here, I’m available’, maybe he’s had enough at Fenerbahce and wants out.
“That wouldn’t surprise me with the way he’s been in the past.
“I do think it’s something he would be interested in and I think he’s trying to talk his way into it.
“I’m not convinced it’s something that will happen immediately, though.
“I don’t think Rangers are in a position to attract Mourinhon right now, as much as he might want the job and the idea of what the job would be.”

Ally McCoist raises Steven Gerrard concern at Ibrox
Gerrard has been tipped for a potential return to Ibrox amid Rangers’ search for a new manager, four years after he left for Aston Villa in 2021.
Brown told Football Insider in February that Gerrard would be open to returning to Rangers and has retained strong connections at the club.
However, Ibrox icon Ally McCoist has now claimed that potential tax issues could cause complications surrounding Gerrard’s appointment after his spell in Saudi Arabia.
The ex-Rangers boss left his role at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq in January, but would have to pay tax on his earning should he return to the UK within a year.
