Josko Gvardiol and Rico Lewis react as news of coach’s Man City exit confirmed

Josko Gvardiol and Rico Lewis reacted to the emerging news of multiple exits at Man City following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Kevin De Bruyne is already set to leave Man City following a decade of service for the Citizens, where he notched 108 goals and 177 assists in 422 appearances since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2015.

Some have even predicted Pep Guardiola to part ways with the club following an extremely difficult campaign in all competitions, going trophy-less for the first time since his first season in England.

The Citizens finished third in the Premier League table, behind Liverpool and Arsenal, while also being knocked out of the Champions League and EFL Cup at early stages.

City also missed out on the FA Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium, losing to Crystal Palace in the final, and multiple members of the staff are set to leave the club ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Man City backroom staff set for exits this summer

Taking to Instagram (28 May), the official club account wrote: “Assistant coaches Juanma Lillo and Inigo Dominguez will leave Manchester City upon the expiry of their contracts.

“Carlos Vicens has also departed the Club after agreeing to become the Head Coach of S.C. Braga. Everyone at Manchester City wishes them the very best and thanks them for their contributions to a hugely successful period for the Club.”

Gvardiol, Lewis, and Divin Mubama all liked the post, sharing their support for the departing coaches as Guardiola’s backroom changes ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Pep Guardiola set to rebuild squad and staff ahead of next season

Football Insider verdict

This news could certainly set the alarm bells ringing over Guardiola’s potential exit from Man City, but it is far more likely to suggest a changing of ideas for the Catalan for next season.

It was an incredibly tough season for the Citizens, failing to battle against the bigger teams and slipping up far too often, especially facing criticism following the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Given the poor performances this season, concerns have also been raised over Erling Haaland’s future as Man City’s striker, with Jack Grealish, John Stones, Ederson, and Mateo Kovacic all liking to leave.

A complete revamp of the squad is expected, even with the winter additions of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, and Abdukodir Khusanov, among other young signings.

Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Man City could let 10 players go this summer, but given the reworks that Guardiola has done during his time at the Etihad, he certainly knows what he’s doing.
