Journalist reveals Benitez power which could see Newcastle pull off shock transfers

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has links all over the world which help him get in touch with the right people when looking to pull off transfers, according to a journalist.
Chris Waugh, the Newcastle reporter for the Chronicle and the Journal, revealed on the Chronicle’s website that the Spanish boss has close connections with the likes of agents and club officials, while he is also said to keep in touch with many of the players who have appeared under his leadership.
As a result, he is able to contact the likes of transfer targets directly, as was reportedly done when securing the signing of former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino over the summer.
Waugh claims that it is this web of contacts which will help the Magpies pull off shock transfers, such as a move for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres, with the former Liverpool striker’s representatives reportedly informing Benitez that he is looking for a loan move in January.
One move which failed to come off, but which Benitez is said to have been confident in securing, was that of former Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic prior to his move from Inter Milan to Monaco, with finances reportedly the only thing preventing his arrival at St James’ Park.
