Rangers fans have started to grow restless over the delays taken to secure a deal for Brighton defender Connor Goldson, but a tweet from journalist Andy Naylor may have revealed the reason for any hold-up – his partner has just given birth to a baby boy.
The Gers have been reported to be close to sealing a deal with the Seagulls to bring the 25-year-old to Ibrox as part of Steven Gerrard’s revolution – but Gers fans have been worried about how long it has taken to strike an agreement.
The Argus’ Andy Naylor sent the congratulatory tweet to Goldson, on his personal Twitter account, saying the former Shrewsbury defender has been through an “emotional rollercoaster” over the previous 18 months after missing out on playing his part in winning promotion to the Premier League after undergoing heart surgery and fearing his career could be over to making his return to first-team football and having a child.
Congratulations to Connor Goldson, now the father of a baby son. #bhafc
An emotional rollercoaster for him over the past 18 months.

Football Insider verdict:
This could quite easily explain why it has taken a bit of time to get a deal arranged as the player’s priorities would no doubt be elsewhere. There’s no massive rush with the Gers not due to return for pre-season training for another week or two as Steven Gerrard gets down to work at Ibrox. Obviously, a delay could open the door for someone else to nip in and steal the former Shrewsbury captain from under Rangers’ nose but it would hardly be right to force him away when he’s just had a baby. After everything that’s happened for the defender, we wish Goldson and his family health and happiness and hope the “emotional rollercoaster” he’s been on has one more massive high coming and he agrees a move to Ibrox to shore up the Light Blues’ defence. One thing is for sure though, the Gers need to get defenders in sooner rather than later or face going into the Europa League qualifiers very thin on defenders.
