Julen Lopetegui: Wyness makes explosive West Ham claim after ‘fall-outs’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he has “big question marks” about West Ham manager-elect Julen Lopetegui.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the 57-year-old will have a harder job on his hands than Irons chiefs currently imagine.

West Ham confirmed on Monday (6 May) that David Moyes will leave the club by mutual consent at the end of this season.

Football Insider has revealed (5 May) that the Londoners are submitting a “highly lucrative” offer to Lopetegui after holding initial talks with the ex-Wolves boss.

The Spaniard left Molineux last summer before this season started due to a fall-out over the sale of several top players.

Lopetegui has ‘hard job’ ahead at West Ham, says Wyness

He won 10 of his 27 games in charge of the Midlands side.

When asked if he could be an upgrade on Moyes, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s difficult when you compare different foreign managers because they’ve all come from different backgrounds.

“Lopetegui, they may feel, can bring a different style of attacking play to West Ham.

“Certainly though, we didn’t see that during his time at Wolves.

“There were some fall-outs behind the scenes there and a lot of rumours about promises being broken.

“Whether he’s got the ability to man-manage a squad in the Premier League – I have a big question mark.

“Whether he can produce the style of play the West Ham fans have wanted, we’ll wait and see.

“I think it’s going to be a harder job for him than they imagine.”
