Julian Alvarez tells Man City he wants to leave after new bid – sources
Man City striker Julian Alvarez has informed the club he wants to leave and join Atletico Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.
Atletico have submitted a bid of £45million rising to £60million with add-ons as they try and sign the 24-year-old this month.
Pep Guardiola is set to sit down and speak with the forward when he returns from the Olympics to try to convince him to stay at the club.
Man City are unwilling to sell Alvarez to a fellow Premier League club and will only sanction a move to a foreign team in this window.
The Argentina international has been frustrated with his role at the club, with the weather also being an issue for him.
Alvarez is under contract at the Etihad until 2028, putting the defending Premier League champions in a strong position to determine what happens with his future.
Man City might keep Julian Alvarez even though he wants to depart
Guardiola is keen to retain Alvarez for at least one more season, which could see him stay in Manchester despite his desire to leave.
The World Cup winner joined the club in 2022 in a £14million move from River Plate and has since played 103 games in all competitions.
Alvarez has enjoyed plenty of success in England, having played a part in the club winning the Champions League, the Club World Cup, an FA Cup, and two Premier League titles.
Despite scoring 36 goals for Man City, he has fallen down the pecking order behind Erling Haaland.

Atletico Madrid are active in the transfer market at the moment as they’re pushing to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.
Football Insider revealed that a transfer for Gallagher is “as close as it’s ever been.”
