Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he is confident that Emre Can will commit his future to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of next season and there have been doubts as to whether he will still be an Anfield player in the near future.
After his side earned a respectable 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss says that he, as well as Can, are certain that he will sign a new deal in time.
“The story around Emre is a public story. We don’t feel it like this. We are convinced, he is convinced, I am convinced,” said Klopp, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“It will happen, or not, but it’s a normal thing too. In this moment it’s all good.”
Can played a starring role in Sunday’s stalemate at the Etihad and had the better of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva for most of the match.
He has made 31 appearances for the Merseyside club this season in all competitions and has scored an impressive four goals despite playing in a more defensive role.
His latest goal was a vital winner against Burnley last week when his side were 2-1 winners to secure back-to-back league victories for the first time since December.
Since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, the German international has made 120 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.
