Rangers have been drawn to face Macedonian minnows FK Shkupi in the first round of qualifying in the Europa League – and Gers fans hope their side have learned their lesson from last season’s European exit.

The Gers were will face Zekirijia Ramadani’s side at Ibrox on July 12th before heading to Macedonia a week later, the Glasgow giants have confirmed.

The Light Blues were knocked out at the same stage last season by Progres Niederkorn and Steven Gerrard will be desperate to avoid a repeat as he takes charge of his first competitive games.

Gers fans were quick to make puns of their opponents name, although one or two did urge caution – with one saying last season’s knockout by was an “embarrassment.”

Gerrard’s side only have one warm-up game before they welcome the Macedonians to Ibrox, facing Bury at Ibrox, and the Light Blues will be keen to try to wrap the tie up in the first leg.

The Gers will travel to Macedonia a week later and face average daytime temperatures of around 31°C in Skopje when they head for the 6,000 capacity Cair Stadium.

Shkupi qualified for the Europa League for the first time in their history last season by finishing fourth in the Macedonian First League.
