Kalvin Phillips reacts to Ben Godfrey message after Ipswich beat Coventry

Ipswich midfielder Kalvin Phillips has responded to his teammate Ben Godfrey on social media after beating Coventry in the FA Cup.

The 27-year-old defender, Godfrey, played the full match against the Sky Blues as the Tractor Boys ran out 4-1 winners.

Midfielder George Hirst opened the scoring with a penalty in the second minute, putting Ipswich in the ascendancy.

Ipswich were fortunate to be awarded the “soft” penalty against Coventry, Keith Hackett told Football Insider exclusively.

The Sky Blues equalised only six minutes later, as Jack Rudoni connected to a Joel Latibeaudiere cross, heading past new-signing Alex Palmer.

Jack Clarke would then show his class, scoring twice for Ipswich in the 28th and 37th minute to put the Premier League side on top.

Jaden Philogene joined Ipswich from Aston Villa in January, and he would put the game out of reach with after Clarke put it on a plate for the young winger.

Ipswich’s loan stars look for form after place in FA Cup fifth round

Following the win, Godfrey posted a photo of himself in action against Coventry on Instagram, captioned: “Next round, great support! See you next weekend”. Phillips replied “Go on r [our] kid”.

Godfrey joined Ipswich from Atalanta on loan in January, having struggled for game time in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The former Everton man made his debut in a 6-0 loss to Man City, and is yet to feature in the Premier League since that match for his side.

Phillips joined Ipswich from Man City in the summer, following a difficult spell in Manchester, and is yet to find the form that made him an England international, since leaving Leeds.

Following the draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup, the Tractor Boys will face the winner between Exeter or Nottingham Forest.

Ipswich search for Premier League survival in January transfer window

Ipswich completed a miraculous double promotion from League One, all the way up to the Premier League, but are now struggling.

Having signed Philogene after a failed attempt last summer, Kieran McKenna will be hoping that the winger, Godfrey and Palmer can add the quality necessary to survive this season.

Whilst they are sat 19th in the table on 16 points, they are only three points behind Wolves in 17th, and have shown in wins over Chelsea and Tottenham that they do have the quality to survive.
