Kane may have ‘missed the boat’ at Tottenham amid release clause update – Mills
Harry Kane may have “missed the boat” on a potential mega-money move away from Tottenham, according to Danny Mills.
The former Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 28-year-old will have to be at his best this season to “keep his stock high”.
Last week (August 25th), the England captain confirmed on Twitter that he would be staying at Tottenham this season.
According to The Athletic (August 26th), Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused to negotiate with Manchester City and rejected bids of £100million and £120million for the striker.
Kane has three years remaining on his contract in north London after signing a six-year deal in 2018.
He netted 23 goals last season on his way to winning the Premier League Golden Boot.
Mills claims he will need to maintain that form in order to stay on Manchester City’s radar.
“He’s got to perform this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“He’s got to score another boatload of goals to keep his stock high.
“Obviously there’s a new manager at Tottenham and they’ve started well. Will that continue – who knows?
“We’ve seen it time and time again, players miss out on moves and then the following season they aren’t needed because someone else becomes available.
“Players, if they’re not careful, can miss the boat with moves away.

City may be tempted to move for other targets in future with the likes of Erling Haaland likely to be on the move next year.
According to Marca, via the Daily Mail (August 21st), club’s are on red alert after it was reported the striker’s £64million release clause could become active in January 2022.
