‘Keep an eye on this’ – Expert drops Brendan Rodgers verdict as Wolves talks open
Brendan Rodgers left Celtic in dramatic circumstances last week but could find himself returning to top-level management quicker than many expected.
Rodgers resigned from his position at Celtic following poor on-pitch performances and multiple disagreements with the board surrounding their transfer policy.
As a result, he is now available to seek other roles, and Wolves’ decision to sack Vitor Pereira has led many to tip the former Leicester boss with a return to England.
The Black Country outfit are currently bottom of the Premier League, with no wins from 10 games so far, and are eight points away from Burnley in 17th.
Rodgers was the initial bookmakers’ favourite for the Wolves job, although Gary O’Neil, 42, is now in talks to take over as manager for a second time at the club.

Brendan Rodgers uncertain about Wolves role
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 October that Rodgers is ready for a Premier League return after leaving Celtic and is weighing up his options.
Meanwhile, Wolves fans are keen for Rodgers to arrive, but the boss is believed to have reservations around taking over at Molineux.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Rodgers has a “huge” decision to make and must unsure he gets it right.
“Rodgers’ situation at Celtic came to a head quicker than many expected,” he told Football Insider.
“Now, he’s got to be careful about where his next move is. Going somewhere like Wolves is a possibility, but it’s not exactly a step forward in his career.
“He’ll have a look at the situation and make a decision about, if he was to take over tomorrow, does he feel he would be able to turn things around?
“I’d say probably keep an eye on this, but I expect he will have concerns about the role.

“They’re winless in 10 games, stranded at the bottom of the table, the players aren’t performing and the situation has started to feel a bit toxic.
“So for Rodgers, it’s a huge decision and one he doesn’t want to get wrong. He won’t want a relegation on his CV, and that’s a very real possibility there.
“So I think there are some doubts, and it’s a decision he has to be absolutely sure about.”
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 28 October that Rodgers is uncertain about the Wolves job given the ongoing situation at Molineux.
Gary O’Neil tipped to take over at Wolves
Rodgers is not the only contender being linked with the vacancy at Molineux, as Gary O’Neil has been tipped to return to Wolves and is seen as a leading candidate.
O’Neil was sacked by Wolves in December 2024 following a run of just two wins in 11 games, but he could now be tempted into a surprise reunion with his former club.
Having been out of work since leaving Molineux, O’Neil was also linked with West Ham before Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment and is keen to return to management.

Other candidates being linked with the Wolves job include two former Man United managers in Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, both of whom are out of work.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 31 October that Wolves are looking at available managers who they would not have to pay compensation for.
