Keith Hackett slams Guilavogui red card call after ‘malice’ in Leeds vs Millwall

Leeds United midfielder Josuha Guilavogui should have been sent off in their FA Cup loss against Millwall, Keith Hackett has said.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the Leeds veteran had “malice” in a challenge on Casper De Norre.

Daniel Farke‘s side were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-0 loss against Millwall, with both goals coming from Femi Azeez.

The manager made several changes to the side, with players such as Mateo Joseph, Karl Darlow and Guilavogui himself all given rare starts.

Following the defeat, Leeds fans have put Farke under pressure, with some believing the result could derail their season.

Leeds United knocked out of FA Cup by Millwall

Although the Whites currently lead the Championship, there are growing concerns that Farke could be sacked by Leeds if the team fails to secure promotion this season.

They are four points clear of second-placed Sheffield United and five points ahead of the play-off positions, but their early FA Cup exit was not well received by fans.

Leeds United

Earlier this season, Leeds fans had called for the club to offer Guilavogui a new deal, but his form has since dropped dramatically, adding to the frustration.

Josuha Guilavogui lucky not to be sent off

Guilavogui was fortunate not to concede a Leeds penalty in their previous FA Cup tie against Harrogate Town, was once again at the centre of controversy.

In the Millwall match, he made a late sliding challenge on De Norre, a tackle that ex-FIFA official Hackett believes should have resulted in a red card.

Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he expressed his surprise and said:

“The PGMOL need to get their referees together to make certain that they all have a consistent application of law around the type of challenge that we saw by the Leeds midfielder today.

“There is no doubt that challenge endangered the safety of an opponent. It did have excessive force. I’m sure there was some malice in it.

“As a result a red card should be issued. Come on guys, let us see red cards issued for this type of challenge.”
