Keith Wyness can’t believe new Man United development – ‘one hell of a risk’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man United would be taking “one hell of a risk” by allowing a documentary at Old Trafford.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed it is “not a happy ship” at United with a “lot of dissatisfaction” behind the scenes.
The Sun reported earlier this month (6 October) that Man United have been swamped with offers to make a behind-the-scenes documentary as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to turn the club’s fortunes around.
The newspaper has claimed several production companies have made approaches on behalf of streaming platforms Netflix, Amazon and Disney+.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Liverpool have all made documentaries in recent years while Wrexham and Sunderland have seen profile-raising success with their own shows.
Wyness can’t believe Man United documentary could become a reality
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They will negotiate the right to look at how it’s going to be edited.
“If they don’t and the producers get the right to show what’s really going on behind the scenes, then United have got a lot to worry about because it’s not a happy ship right now.
“Any documentary worth its salt wouldn’t give that right away, because they lose the real story.
“There’s a lot of dissatisfaction and a lot of issues.
“If United were brave and they show what’s going on and it then ends up a success, it would be great for them.
“But it could just be a story of a club in chaos who slip further down.
“It’s worked for Sunderland and Wrexham, but those are easier stories to tell.

“At Burnley, it’s been quite damaging for Vincent Kompany. There are a few who have gone either way.
“But for a club the size and scale of Man United, it’s one hell of a risk. It all depends on the rights they sign away.”
