Keith Wyness: Chelsea facing ‘big problems’ if they complete shock Cole Palmer sale

Chelsea fans would be left incensed if the club were to allow star player Cole Palmer to leave in a shock transfer.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Palmer being linked with a move to Man United.

Chelsea have valued Palmer at £100million, with the 23-year-old having emerged into an influential player at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer’s impact this season has been restricted by injuries, but the forward still has seven goal contributions in 14 appearances.

Cole Palmer links just ‘a great story’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks links of an exit may be Palmer wanting to “improve his deal” at Chelsea.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness can’t see Palmer leaving Chelsea right now.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “No, I don’t see that happening. That’s one that I think is purely media-related right now, and I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.

“I don’t think Chelsea will let Cole Palmer go. I just don’t see it and to me, it’s a work of fiction, and it’s a great story, but that’s about it and no, that’s one that I would scotch immediately, and I’m afraid that I think Cole Palmer and the Chelsea management, I think, would face big problems with the fans if they were to let Cole Palmer go.

“And I think it may just be a negotiation internally by his agent about trying to improve his deal if he can at Chelsea.”

Chelsea agree Raheem Sterling exit

Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Raheem Sterling, with the 31-year-old now free to find a new club.

Sterling’s contract was terminated by mutual consent, with the forward having not played a minute of first team football for the club since May 2024.

Napoli are the front-runners to sign Sterling as a free agent, with interest also from Premier League clubs, who could make a move subject to his wage demands.
