Keith Wyness reveals ‘five Nottingham Forest incidents’ after Marinakis bust-up
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness says the reaction of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was “understandable” after he was pictured on the pitch after their defeat to Liverpool last week.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – said that Forest have now experienced multiple poor refereeing decisions this season.
Forest suffered a late 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday (2 March) with Darwin Nunez scoring the only goal of the game in the 99th minute after referee Paul Tierney mistakenly gave the visitors possession during a drop-ball.
Following the match, Forest owner Marinakis was pictured on the pitch complaining to officials while coaching staff were also involved in the bust-up.
Football Insider looked at fan reaction to the incident with some supporters describing the scenes as “terrifying”.
Marinakis scenes latest in series of Nottingham Forest ‘incidents’
“It was almost understandable that Marinakis reacted this way,” Wyness told Football Insider.
“Forest have had an accumulation of events which is why they’ve got Clattenburg involved as their referee advisor.
“It’s because this is not the first incident – there have been three, four or five incidents that have forced them down that route.
“They do seem to have multiple examples of some very poor calls.
“The incident at the weekend – I get it – the referee did not correctly impose the law of the game.

“So when it comes to the ninth minute of injury time and it’s a broken rule from the referees, of course you’re going to be angry.
“We all know how much relegation means to these clubs and Marinakis has obviously not only invested emotionally but massively financially.“
