Keith Wyness shares ‘unbelievable’ verdict on Michael Beale making shock Rangers return
Michael Beale endured a turblulent 10-month spell as Rangers boss between 2022 and 2023 before being sacked by the Ibrox hierarchy.
The 44-year-old originally arrived in Glasgow as Steven Gerrard‘s assistant as the Gers saw Scottish Premiership success.
He then moved on to Villa with Gerrard before taking the job at QPR in June 2022 – and leaving after just 22 games to return to Rangers in November 2022.
Beale was sacked in October 2023 after 43 games and had a two-month spell with Sunderland before returning to Gerrard’s side as assistant to the legendary midfielder with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on the unliked boss making a return to Glasgow, with Rangers searching for a new permanent manager.

Rangers should make ‘clean break’ from the past, says Wyness
Gerrard is the bookies favourite to be appointed the permanent new boss at Ibrox – and could seek to appoint Beale to his coaching staff if he is offered the job.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Rangers need a “clean break” from the past and shouldn’t re-appoint the duo.
Barry Ferguson is currently in charge on an interim basis and spearheaded a famous penalty shoot-out win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League last-16 on Thursday (13 March).
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The interesting thing is – would Gerrard bring Michael Beale back as well?
“He’s had a very checkered career since leaving Rangers, so I don’t know.

“I find it hard to believe there isn’t a better option out there. I think they could do with a fresh start.
“They had success at Rangers, but I don’t think going back to Gerrard and Beale would be the way forward.
“I think they’ve got to have a bit more of a clean break in the summer.”

Rangers owners bankroll £5m+ injection
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (12 March) that Rangers have received a £5.3million injection from their owners in the form of a new share issue.
It comes after Rangers’ owners injected £3.6million into the club last month in a similar transaction.
Rangers have been the subject of intense takeover speculation over the past few weeks and the 49ers Enterprises-backed deal appears to be progressing.
