Keith Wyness shares verdict on Everton January signing blitz

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested the club will only go big in the January window if they struggle through the festive period.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he “tends toward stability”, backing Sean Dyche and the current squad to maintain the club’s top-flight status.

The Friedkin Group have agreed to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake at Everton and are expected to complete a takeover in the coming weeks.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (1 October) that Friedkin will make funds available for the January transfer window.

Dyche’s position has been under scrutiny in recent weeks but Everton picked up their first league win against Crystal Palace last time out.

The Toffees are now 16th in the table with four other top-flight clubs yet to win a game this term.

Everton could choose ‘stability’ over January transfer blizzard, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Friedkins will be looking at Sean Dyche and weighing up what will give them the best chance of being in the Premier League next season.

“Is it stability with the present management and squad, or do we need to change now and bring in a lot of new players in January?

“I tend towards stability.

“I think that gives the best chance of survival.

“A lot will depend on that run-in to Christmas and if the squad starts to falter. We noticed a big difference in performance with injured players coming back for the win against Palace.

“So hopefully, with the run of fixtures we’ve got, there can be some more points put on the board.

“Then you’d see Dyche’s position secured and the squad firing.

“It’s all about staying in the Premier League this season.”
