Keith Wyness stunned by ‘amazing’ Tottenham situation
Tottenham’s injury list may have played a part in the lack of January transfer activity at the club.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is backing Spurs to be revitalised once Thomas Frank has a fully fit squad to choose from.
Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Manchester City extended their winless run in the Premier League to six games, with the north London club 14th in the table.
Conor Gallagher was Spurs’ only major arrival in January, despite their long injury list which meant Frank was missing 11 senior players against Man City.
Tottenham to ‘rebuild’ after injuries
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – does not think Spurs are in danger of relegation this season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes injuries have “ruined” Spurs’ campaign.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, we talked about this and was it going to be a sign of backing Thomas Frank? Well, Conor Gallagher was certainly, I think, a good signing, and he proved that in the second half, to a degree, in the game of two halves at the weekend.
“But I think you have got, and I was amazed when I actually looked at that injury list, just what is on there, and it’s amazing the number of players that Spurs, of the high quality players they’ve got, on that injury list.
“So there’s no doubt that the people at the top of Spurs are going to be saying, well, hang on. Look, if we do back you and bring in somebody 40, 50, 60 million, what happens when all these come back in the next few weeks? So I think they’ve just taken that point of view that they’re not really in trouble.
“I don’t believe they’ll get into any relegation fight. So I think they’re going to have to rebuild, and it’s been the injuries that have really ruined this season. I think it’ll give Frank some new life as people come back from injury. I think they’ll get the squad stabilised, he’ll start to push forward.”

Spurs losing money amid injury crisis
Injuries could be costing Spurs up to £145,000 a day, with James Maddison the highest paid of the club’s injured stars.
Maddison has been out of action for the entire season following an anterior crucial ligament injury sustained last August.
Dejan Kulusevski has also not featured this season, whilst Mohammed Kudus is out until April and Rodrigo Bentancur could miss the rest of the campaign with a hamstring injury.
