Kennedy tipped for Rangers first-team role after another West Ham bid knocked back - Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to hand Kai Kennedy a shot in the Rangers first team after rejecting bids from West Ham.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, revealed he has only heard good things about the 19-year-old from those he knows at Ibrox and in the press.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (July 19th), Rangers rejected a £600,000 offer from West Ham for the winger.

This site has since detailed that the Irons have had a second offer knocked back.

It is understood Gerrard has reacted to the interest from the Premier League club by promoting Kennedy from training with the Rangers B team to the senior squad.

Hutton admitted he was thrilled the teenager, who has made one senior appearance, could get a shot in the first team.

He suggested Rangers’ reluctance to let the young winger go pointed towards big plans for him.

“That’s a substantial fee for a 19-year-old, especially to knock it back,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“It shows you what their train of thought is. They obviously see him as someone they want to integrate into the first team very soon, I would have thought, if they’re knocking those offers back.

“I’m actually really looking forward to seeing him play, if I’m honest. I’ve not seen too much but obviously, I hear all the good things about him, read in the press about him.

“I’ve not actually seen too much of him which I really want to. It’s only good things that you hear. He’s obviously a couple of good loan spells last season but it’ll be good to see the progression now.

“Whether Steven Gerrard wants to introduce him into the first team at the moment, or they want to loan him out to a decent standard of team to build for the future.

“They obviously see something that they want to keep hold of for the future for Rangers. That’s the path they want.

“We’ll see how it goes. If these teams start ramping up the bids, it will be interesting to see Rangers’ stance on it.”
