Kenny suggests Rangers signing 'three players' in January to 'decide title' race with Celtic

Paddy Kenny claims Rangers need to sign at least two defenders in January if they are to defend their Premiership title.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be all too aware of his side’s defensive problems.

Van Bronckhorst, 46, was in attendance as Rangers conceded three first-half goals in last weekend’s League Cup semi-final loss to Hibernian.

The Light Blues haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league since September 25 and have made a habit of conceding the first goal in recent games.

Kenny insists it is “clear” Rangers need to overhaul their defence and claimed their new manager will be all too aware of that fact.

“He was at the game last weekend and it was clear where the problem was,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The defence hasn’t been anywhere near as good as it was last season.

“It’s cost them again, they are out of the cup. The problem isn’t scoring goals, they have plenty of players who can do that.

“The defence isn’t working and if they are to be successful, that has to change.

“Whether that means signing two or three players in January. Can they do that with their finances?

“I can see it and it could decide the title.”

Rangers sit four points ahead of Celtic ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

The Gers travel to Livingston on Sunday while Celtic face Aberdeen at Parkhead.
