Kenny tells Sheffield United to pull off 'massive coup' after Souttar update
Paddy Kenny has admitted it will be a “massive coup” if Sheffield United can seal the signing of John Souttar from Hearts.
The former Blades stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, would be delighted if his former side pulled off the transfer.
As quoted by the Times (8 January) Paul Heckingbottom confirmed his interest in signing Souttar, 25, this month.
The Blades boss admitted, “he’s one of a few that we have been looking at” and went on to say he would be “foolish” to not look at signing the defender.
Football Insider revealed on 16 November that Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Souttar in January but an Ibrox source has updated today that Rangers as well as Stoke City are also keeping tabs.
Kenny insists it would be a huge coup if Sheffield United can lure Souttar to Bramall Lane.

“It’s great to hear,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If we are serious about pushing for the play-offs, these are the sort of signings you need to make.
“If they can get Souttar ahead of Rangers then that is a massive coup for the club.
“It’s been a disappointing period for the club. We haven’t been able to carry on this good form because of games being cancelled.
“A signing like that would really lift the move again and it would help to fix a bit of a problem position.
“It would be an exciting transfer so it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.”
Souttar is out of contract in the summer.
He has made 18 league appearances and scored three goals this season.
