Kenny tips Aston Villa to land Abraham for 'bargain' fee amid £15m Chelsea claim

Chelsea are operating in a buyer’s market and may have to knock £15million off their valuation of Tammy Abraham – brilliant news for Aston Villa.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed that Villa have moved into pole position in the race for the striker’s signature.

They are prepared to meet Chelsea’s £40m asking price for the 23-year-old, who is also a target for Leicester City and Wolves.

Abraham has started just two Premier League games since Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as Chelsea boss in January.

Kenny claims that few clubs are in a position to spend £40million on an out-of-favour striker, a situation which could force Chelsea to lower their demands.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s over the top, valuation-wise, if you compare it to some players.

“But he can score goals at a top-class, Premier League level. That’s a big positive for him.

“On the other hand though, a lot of clubs have suffered through this pandemic. There can’t be too many clubs who are ready to go and spend £40million on a striker.

That might work in their favour. Villa could find themselves telling Chelsea: ‘Look, you need to knock £15m off here’.

“If that happens, he might end up being a bargain.”

Abraham is no stranger to the Villa fanbase after scoring 26 goals during a loan spell in the promotion-winning 2018-19 campaign.

This site understands that Villa are also eyeing another former loanee, Axel Tuanzebe, ahead of a potential summer swoop.

In other news, this may be the real reason Aston Villa wonderkid is desperate to quit.
