Keown: Everton 23-year-old is a pussycat, must become a lion

Martin Keown has branded Everton striker Romelu Lukaku a “pussycat” but believes when he is wound up he is one of the best.
Lukaku, 23, struck an instinctive brace against Leicester on Sunday, as the Toffees secured a 4-2 win in a pulsating encounter that saw both sides take the lead throughout the match.
Manager Ronald Koeman praised him as one of the best strikers he has worked with, but Keown said that he’s a “pussycat” most of the time.
“Lukaku must be doing something right on the trading ground [for Koeman praise],” Keown said on BBC One’s transmission of Match of the Day on Sunday (10.30pm).
“Getting him into that lion state of mind is crucial, he plays like a pussycat most of the time. But it’s all about geeing him up to get him going, when you do, he is awesome.”

Lukaku scored his 22nd and 23rd league goals of the season against Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes, as he increased his lead at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts.
Everton broke the deadlock within 30 seconds of the clash at Goodison Park, as youngster Tom Davies continued his breathtaking form by squeezing a shot from close range into the net.
However, Leicester scored a quick-fire double as Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton scored goals that goalkeeper Joel Robles would have been disappointed to concede.
Ross Barkley’s sublime cross met Lukaku in the middle of the box, who nodded home past Kasper Schmeichel before Phil Jagielka scored his second goal in two games from a corner.
The win was rounded off by Belgium international Lukaku, who lashed a shot home after a corner was poorly defended by Leicester.
The Toffees now sit level on points with Man United despite having played three more games, but will be looking to keep up their pursuit of the top six with a win against Burnley on Saturday.
