'Who does he think he is kidding?' – Keown destroys Arsenal star after defeat to Tottenham

By Will Butcher

Martin Keown believes Mesut Ozil has given up on his Arsenal teammates and is trying to sulk his way out of the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil, 28, was virtually non-existent against north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday, as Spurs secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Gunners at White Hart Lane.

Keown destroyed German playmaker Ozil in his Mail column, questioning his attitude and claiming he made absolutely no contribution during Sunday’s alarming loss.

“It looks as if Ozil has given up on his teammates. I don’t know whether he is trying to sulk his way to a move,” former Arsenal defender Keown claimed.

“Who does he think he is kidding with his performances? He is supposed to be Arsenal’s most influential player, their playmaker. Against Tottenham he was just jogging around the pitch.”

Along with Alexis Sanchez and a number of other Gunners stars, former Real Madrid playmaker Ozil’s future is in doubt with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2018.

The Mail claim Ozil is looking for a huge £300,000 a week to remain in north London, more than double his current £140,000-a-week contract.

Ozil began the 2016-17 season in enigmatic form, scoring nine goals and laying on seven assists before the turn of the year. Since then, he has managed just two strikes and only four assists.

The loss to Tottenham confirmed that Arsenal would finish below their north London rivals for the first time since 1994-95, as Arsene Wenger’s side sit in sixth place and 17 points behind.

Ozil is likely to feature against rivals Man United on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners look to keep their thin Champions League hopes alive with three points.

In other Arsenal news, it has been revealed that Ozil was involved in a dressing room bust-up after the loss to Tottenham.
