Keown: This Tottenham player is a 'bully', needs to improve one thing on training ground
Martin Keown has heaped praise on Tottenham centre-back Serge Aurier after a commanding performance for Tottenham against Bournemouth.
After criticising the defender on a previous show, Keown was far more complimentary on Sunday night’s Match of the Day 2 program (Sunday, BB2, 10.30pm).
Talking after the 4-1 win on Sunday, Keown said, “He’s battling it out with Trippier isn’t he at the moment, who’s the best full-back at Tottenham?
“He [Aurier] is a big, strong lad, and at times, look at this for a quality pass.
“That’s part and parcel of being a Spurs player now, you’ve got to look for the runners. He wants to get up and down the pitch, which is what the manager wants.
“But has he got the quality in the final third? Not quite… He’s very strong, a bully… No nonsense, he wants to win the ball.

“It’s just his final product, he needs to work on that on the training pitch. He’s intelligent. Now he’s part of the gang.”
Football Insider verdict:
High praise indeed from the former Arsenal defender. Aurier has been criticised and for good reasons, but he’s got the part of the game that is tough to teach – the defending. he’s quick enough, now he just needs to add the quality in the final third. If he can produce the sort of ball that he laid on for Alli consistently, he would be the best right-back in the Premier League. Kyle Walker who?
