Kevin Thomson: Rangers players must emulate this 'selfish' Celtic star

Rangers coach Kevin Thomson believes Gers player must emulate Celtic star Scott Brown and develop a selfish streak to make it to the top – and revealed a hilarious first interaction with Jason Cummings after the striker joined the Light Blues on loan.
Thomson recently took over the Gers’ Under-13’s side after injury forced him into retirement aged 31 and wants to help the Gers’ young players make the most of their opportunity.
Former Hibs midfielder Thomson also revealed that he pulled up his one-time Easter Road team-mate Cummings for leaving the Gers’ Auchenhowie training centre at 2pm shortly after signing – insisting he wants everybody to be “as selfish as possible” at the Gers.
“The first time I saw Jason when he signed was in the car park at 2pm with Jason Holt. I said to them, ‘It’s two o’clock, where are you going? You should be in there practising’,” Thomson said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He said, ‘I’ve got a game tomorrow Uncle T.’ I still told him he should be
back in there getting better.
“I told him this is an amazing club and over these next six months he should be as selfish as possible – which he is – to showcase his talents and hopefully be here long-term. That is what I’d say to everybody.
“Look at Scotty across the pond – he is selfish, he wants to keep on playing, he doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. That is the nature of the beast we
want to try to create.”
Thomson joined the Gers in 2007 after Walter Smith’s return to Ibrox and spent three years with the Light Blues before moving south to join Middlesbrough in 2010.
The tough-tackling midfielder won two Scottish titles, two Scottish League Cups an a Scottish Cup during his spell at Ibrox as well as being involved in the UEFA Cup final defeat by Zenit St. Petersburg in 2008.
After starting his own youth academy, Thomson joined the Gers’ coaching staff last month after previously being interviewed for a role in Pedro Caixinha’s backroom team last summer.
