West Ham key player Michail Antonio has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool at the London Stadium, according to a report.
The London Evening Standard claims that Antonio, 27, had suffered a recurrence of a rib injury he sustained against Brighton last month and despite returning off the bench against Crystal Palace last week, he will not play any part against the Reds.
Antonio has been a mainstay of Slaven Bilic’s first-team after returning from an operation on a torn hamstring he suffered last season.
He has made 10 appearances across all competitions since returning but it seems that he is set for a bit of a longer spell on the sidelines than expected with his latest setback.
West Ham boss Bilic knows that he is walking a tight rope after failing to win his last three Premier League fixtures against Burnley, Brighton and Palace.
The League Cup win against Tottenham has perhaps bought the Croat some time, but patience may start to wear thing with the Hammers board should they suffer a home loss to Liverpool this weekend, who themselves are struggling to meet standards in the league.
West Ham go into Saturday’s game 16th in the table and know that a defeat could potentially leave them in the bottom three if other results don’t go their way.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have three names on a shortlist to replace Bilic.
